Welcome back

It's been a while since our last letter, and I'm grateful you're still here.

A lot has happened since July. The biggest story for us: tokenization is no longer just an idea people argue about online. Last week, the company that keeps the records for most U.S. stocks started offering tokenized versions of them.

In this issue, I'll explain what that means in plain language, what the Fed did last week, and one verse that has been on my heart.

The big story: tokenization goes mainstream

On Oct. 28, DTCC launched the DTCC Tokenization Service.

Who is DTCC? It's part of the plumbing behind U.S. markets. Its Depository Trust Company keeps the official records for the securities most people own through their brokers. You've probably never heard of it, but if you own a stock, it is likely on DTCC's books.

What did they launch? A way to hold certain securities as tokens, which DTCC calls "digital twins." To start, that covers Russell 1000 stocks, ETFs that track major indexes, and U.S. Treasuries.

What stays the same? DTCC says the tokens keep the same ownership rights, investor protections, and economic entitlements as the traditional versions. The stock doesn't change. The record of who owns it gets a digital, programmable form.

Who's in? 20 firms have signed agreements to use it so far. They include Bank of America, Citi, Fidelity Investments, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, State Street, and UBS.

What this means for you

For years, people asked whether tokenization was real. The backbone of the U.S. market just answered that question.

But here's the part we always come back to: tokenization is a format, not a guarantee. A good asset is still a good asset. A weak one is still weak, even with a token attached. Before asking what a token might earn, ask what it represents, who holds it, and what rights it gives you.

That's the kind of understanding we're building together here.

Markets: what we're watching

The Fed held steady. On Oct. 28, the Federal Reserve kept its benchmark rate at 3.75% to 4.00%. The vote was 10 to 2, and the two who disagreed wanted a small increase. In plain language: borrowing costs aren't coming down yet, and not everyone at the table agrees on what's next.

The jobs report lands Friday. The October jobs report comes out Friday, Nov. 6, at 8:30 AM ET. It's one of the numbers markets watch most closely.

How we think about it: don't build your plan on a guess about the Fed's next move. Build it so it holds up either way. Know your risk before you take a position, and write your plan down before you act.

From this week's livestream

The Binance hack, and what it teaches about custody. Binance, a major crypto exchange, says hackers stole about $6.3 billion from it in late October. Binance says it will cover the losses from its own funds, including its SAFU emergency fund, so users don't take the hit. Withdrawals have been reopening in phases since Nov. 1.

The lesson: when your crypto sits on an exchange, the exchange holds it for you. You're trusting their security and their reserves. That isn't wrong, but it should be a choice you make on purpose. Know who holds your assets.

Microsoft and the AI boom. Microsoft reported $92.3 billion in revenue last quarter, up 19% from a year earlier. Azure, its cloud business that powers a lot of AI, grew 48%. AI demand isn't just talk. It's showing up in real revenue.

Through the chaos: the great rotation is here

There's a lot of noise right now. Hacks, wars, rate fights, headlines that change by the hour. In times like this, our first move isn't to a chart. It's to Christ. Seek Him first, and let Him steady your mind before you make any decision with what He's entrusted to you.

But don't let the noise hide what's happening right in front of us.

Central banks are stacking gold. They bought 321 tonnes in the third quarter, up 42% from a year ago, according to the World Gold Council.

The U.S. is opening the door to tokenization. In September, the SEC granted an "Innovation Exemption" so approved venues can trade tokenized stocks. Last week, DTCC launched its Tokenization Service.

This is the Great Rotation I wrote about back in July. Money and institutions are moving toward hard assets and better rails at the same time. It's not a theory anymore. It's in our faces.

And the hacks point to the same need. The Binance hack started at a single weak point: one compromised computer. The old way of running money relies on a few central points that can fail. Blockchain gives us a shared, transparent record that anyone can check. It's part of why billions of the stolen funds could be traced and frozen on-chain so fast. No system is perfect, and good security still matters. But the world needs a better operating system for money, and it's being built right now.

Pay attention. Stay rooted. Keep learning.

A moment of stewardship

"For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?" — Luke 14:28 (KJV)

DTCC got regulatory sign-off last December, ran real test trades in July, and only launched in October. They counted the cost first.

That's how we're building BlackChain™ too: slowly, carefully, and in the right order. It's also how each of us should handle what God has put in our hands. Sit down first. Understand what you own and why. Then build.
